M.J. McFarland

School: x-Texas
Position: TE
Positive: Started four games for the Longhorns in 2014, catching 11 passes for 53 yards and 2 TDs. Academic All Big 12 choice that season. Graduated from Texas then transferred to UTEP in January 2015 but was ruled ineligible by the NCAA after testing positive for a banned substance. Nice sized and fairly athletic tight end that's shown ability in all areas. Has a long, lean build, moves well about the field and plays with a degree of quickness. Adjusts to the errant throw making the reception in stride, catches the ball with his hands and shows ability running after the reception. Effective blocking in motion.
Negative: Average strength and struggles finishing blocks on the line of scrimmage. Minimally explosive. Not a downfield pass catching threat. Marginally productive on the college level.
Analysis: McFarland was used on a rotational basis for Texas but offers the measurables as well as the upside to get consideration on a practice squad this fall.
