Kevin Byard

School: Middle Tennessee
Position: S
Positive: Four-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior when he posted 66 tackles and broke up 10 passes. Registered 6 interceptions as a junior. Tough, consistent safety with marginal physical skills. Instinctive, picks up coverage assignments in the middle of the field and displays solid ball skills. Nicely tracks the pass in the air, works well with cornerbacks and constantly around the ball. Instinctive, effectively anticipates the action and a strong open field tackler. Quick up the field defending the run or screen passes, fluid moving laterally and breaks down well.
Negative: Possesses an average closing burst. At times takes poor angles and over pursues the action.
Analysis: Byard was a consistent four-year performer and a good football player but comes with marginal upside potential. He's a special-teams prospect who could lineup in a zone system.
