Geno Smith

School: Alabama
Position: S
Positive: Posted a career-best 72 tackles as a senior when he started 15 games at safety. Used at both cornerback an safety off the bench the prior two years. Underrated defensive back prospect best facing the action. Quick up the field defending the run, displays a burst laterally and wraps up tackling. Quickly picks up coverage assignments, displays good range and effectively tracks the pass in the air. Can burst to the ball out of his plant, displays above average ball skills and works well with cornerbacks. Hard hitting and forces fumbles.
Negative: Slow out of his transition in man coverage situations. Lacks deep speed. Not a sure handed tackler.
Analysis: Smith did an outstanding job once he moved into the starting lineup last season and offers possibilities at the next level as a dime back/special teams player.
