Tyler Ervin

School: San Jose State
Position: RB
Positive: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his junior season. All-Conference return specialist in 2012. Senior totals included a career-best 1601 yards rushing with 13 TDs and 44 receptions for 334 yards and 2 more scores. Also averaged 15 yards on 17 returns. Underrated skill player with a versatile game. Patient, instinctive and plays smart football. Displays great vision, remains disciplined with assignments and consistently finds the running lanes. Effectively follows blocks, turns on his burst in a single step and plays much faster than his 40 time. Runs hard on the inside, consistently turns it North/South and falls forward when tackled. Can be tough to catch and shows the ability to create yardage. Does a great job following blocks and beats defenders into the open field. Consistent hand catcher, extending to make the reception away from his frame. Displays himself to be a pass catching threat out of the backfield. Finds ways to pick up yardage as a punt returner. Works blocks in pass protection.
Negative: Must improve his ball security as he's prone to fumbling. Not a big bodied ball carrier that will pick up much yardage off initial contact.
Analysis: Ervin was a consistent performer on the college level and offers ability as a ball carrier, pass catcher and return specialist. He's a situational runner/third-down back who must hold onto the ball to see playing time at the next level.
