Connor Cook

School: Michigan State
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter named Big Ten Quarterback of the Year in 2015 after throwing for 3131 yards and 24 touchdowns. Never completed 60% of his throws in any season at Michigan State. Physically gifted passer with an erratic game. Goes through receiver progressions, remains poised under the rush and steps up to buy time. Looks away from covered targets, stands strong in the pocket and waits until the last second before releasing the ball. Does a terrific job with the ball fakes, possesses a quick release and passes immediately get to the intended target. Puts touch on throws, puts air under the ball and lets receivers run to the long throw. Takes off up the field on design runs and works to pick up as much yardage as possible.
Negative: Must improve his pass placement and overall accuracy. Constantly has receivers leaving their feet and twisting in the wind to come away with the reception. Misses open targets down field. Marginally effective throwing on the move. At times will force the ball into covered targets and does not always seem on the same page as receivers. Has personality quirks which has turned off a lot of people. Chose not to participate in the Senior Bowl which did not sit well with a lot of NFL decision-makers.
Analysis: Cook was a productive college quarterback and possesses the physical skills to line up under center on Sunday but must improve almost every aspect of his game. His accuracy, pass placement and decision-making are not NFL ready and many question his leadership ability. The foundation is available for Coke to develop into a first team signal caller yet there will be many bumps in the road before that happens.
