Cody Kessler

School: USC
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his sophomore season. Career totals of 3826 passing yards, 39 TDs and a completion percentage of 69.7% came during his junior season. Smallish, high percentage passer with minimal upside for the next level. Instinctive, displays a terrific sense of knowing where his receivers are on the field and patient in the pocket. Buys as much time as necessary, takes the safe underneath outlet if nothings available downfield and remains poised under the rush. Makes good decisions, does not have lapses in judgment and will take a big hit in order to get the throw away. Does a nice job locating the open wide out, accurate in the short and intermediate field and effectively commands the offense. Improvises when plays breakdown and works to keep the action alive.
Negative: Loses a lot throwing on the move. Cannot drive deep throws. The further down field or out to the flanks he throws the ball the less accurate he is. Cannot withstand the rush in the pocket and brought down by a single defender.
Analysis: Kessler was a terrific college quarterback but lacks the size and physical skills to be an elite next level signal caller. He offers possibilities in a West Coast or timing offense and is a prospect who could see spot duty as a starter on Sunday.
