Brett McMakin

School: Northern Iowa
Position: ILB
Positive: Two-year starter awarded All-America and all-Conference honors last season when he totaled 122 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as well as forcing 5 fumbles. Underrated linebacker prospect effective making plays in the box or up the field. Sized well, defeats blocks and quickly gets to the action. Breaks down well, explosive at the point of attack and plays with a nasty attitude. Remains disciplined with assignments, does not bite on play action passes and a solid open field tackler.
Negative: Inefficient and takes extra steps to the action. Does not always take correct angles to the play. Must improve his playing balance. Off the field issues must be looked into.
Analysis: McMakin was one of the better run defending linebackers on the IAA level the past two seasons and is a natural fit on the inside of a 34 alignment where he could make the depth chart and play special teams.
