Blake Martinez

School: Stanford
Position: ILB
Positive: Two-year starter awarded All-America and all-Conference honors as a senior. Led Stanford in tackling the past two seasons posting a career-best 141 tackles as a senior. Instinctive, hard-working linebacker consistently around the action. Sees the play before it unfolds, efficient and takes proper angles to the play. Displays a great head for the ball, moves well laterally and has a burst to the action. Breaks down well, quick changing direction and smooth turning his hips then dropping into coverage. Squares into ball handlers and a solid open field tackler. Effectively quarterbacks the defense and makes the proper calls.
Negative: Not a great athlete. Solid size. Possesses more of a short burst of speed.
Analysis: Martinez was a consistent defender who does not have mental lapses on the field or show errors in judgment. He offers possibilities on the inside of a 34 alignment or middle linebacker in a traditional 4-3 system and is a prospect very likely to be under-drafted in April.
