Jihad Ward

School: Illinois
Position: DT
Positive: Junior-college transfer that's started the past two seasons, totaling 53 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss as a senior. Large, athletic defensive line prospect with tremendous upside. Plays with balance, rarely off his feet and flows well in every direction. Plays with consistent leverage, works his hands throughout the play and easily changes direction without losing momentum. Displays a burst of closing speed, flashes power and the ability to knock blockers off the ball. Fluid chasing laterally in pursuit of the action. Sized well and can be tough to handle.
Negative: Streaky and disappears for stretches. Gets caught up in the trash or easily out positioned by blockers. Rough around the edges.
Analysis: Ward displayed flashes of dominance the past two seasons and is a developmental prospect with a large upside. He offers possibilities at a number of defensive line spots and could end up being drafted earlier than most project.
