Shilique Calhoun

School: Michigan State
Position: DE
Positive: Three-year starter awarded All-America and all-Conference honors since his sophomore season. Career-best 49 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks came during his senior campaign. Explosive college pass rushing end with average size/speed numbers for the next level. Plays with outstanding pad level and rarely off his feet. Shows both balance and body control, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and easily makes plays in every direction of the field. Fires off the snap with a great first step, shows quickness in his all-around game and effectively diagnoses the action. Plays with a nasty, aggressive attitude, shows the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack and viciously goes after ball handlers. Can bend off the edge then pursue from the backside.
Negative: Lacks bulk and handled by opposing blockers or tight ends. Possesses just a short burst of speed and ineffective in backside pursuit. May struggle defending the run at the next level.
Analysis: Calhoun was a disruptive college pass rusher for three seasons, consistently making plays behind the line of scrimmage and altering the momentum of games. He possesses poor size/speed numbers and is a prospect who must grow into his body, improving his bulk and playing strength. Calhoun may start off his NFL career as a designated pass rusher and eventually find his niche on Sunday's.
