Drew Ott

School: Iowa
Position: DE
Positive: Four-year starter awarded all-Academic honors since 2013 and named as an all-Conference player after his sophomore and junior seasons. Career totals of 57 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 8 sacks came in 2014. Played in 6 games last season before suffering a season ending knee injury. Also struggled with a dislocated elbow early in his senior campaign. Applied for an additional season of eligibility but his appeal was denied by the NCAA on April 13. Hard-working college pass rusher who plays intelligent, fundamentally sound football. Plays with excellent pad level, gets leverage on opponents and works his hands throughout the action. Tenacious, can bend off the edge and gives effort defending the run. Intense, plays through the whistle and relatively athletic. Chases the action laterally, moves well on his feet and catches ball handlers in backside pursuit. Remains disciplined with assignments and does more than just pin his ears back and rush up the field.
Negative: Shows more of a short burst rather than sustained speed. Controlled at the point by a single blocker. Coming off a pair of significant injuries from last season.
Analysis: Despite appeals to return to the college field in 2016, Ott now makes his way to the NFL after a late last-minute decision by the NCAA. He possesses next level size as well as growth potential and could begin his NFL career as a designated pass rusher if he's able to get back to health.
