Xavien Howard

School: Baylor
Position: CB
Positive: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors last season after 42 tackles, 5 INT's and 10 PBUs. Underrated cornerback with a solid game. Engages receivers at the line scrimmage, smooth flipping his hips in transition and fights throughout the route. Effective facing the action, quickly tracks the ball in the air and displays good hands for the interception. Stays on the receivers hip out of breaks, positions himself to defend the throw and consistently gets a hand in to knock away the ball. Aggressive, works hard defending running plays or screen passes.
Negative: Lacks great downfield speed and a liability in deep coverage. Inconsistent making plays with his back to the ball.
Analysis: Howard looked like a top-rated prospect after his brilliant sophomore career but has watched his game level off since. He offers nice size but is a limited athlete that must play in a zone system.
