Gabe Holmes

School: Purdue
Position: TE
Bio: Totaled 17 receptions for 178 yards and 2 scores as a senior. Sat the sidelines in 2013 with an injured wrist. Posted a career-best 25 receptions as a true junior in 2012.
Positive: Relatively athletic tight end prospect whose game never really developed. Plays with quickness, moves well about the field and effectively catches the ball with his hands. Gives effort blocking, stays square and seals opponents from the action. Bends his knees and breaks down well.
Negative: Despite his 40 time more of a one speed tight end and does not show the ability to consistently get downfield. Despite his size displays poor functional strength and struggles finishing blocks.
Analysis: On paper Holmes looks like a legitimate top-100 choice at the tight end position but his play and productivity have been of the free agent variety. His athleticism coupled with the skills Holmes has flashed in the past makes him worth stashing on a practice squad.
