Fritz Etienne

School: Memphis
Position: S
Bio: Junior-college transfer who moved into the starting line up last season and finished with 47 tackles, 3 INTs and 3 PBUs.
Positive: Underrated safety prospect with solid ball skills. Effectively diagnoses plays, displays a sense of timing on pass defenses and has a burst to the ball out of his plant. Flows well to the play, takes good angles to the action and brackets well with cornerbacks against receivers over the middle. Remains disciplined with assignments, reads the quarterbacks eyes then makes his move to the ball. Occasionally lined up over the slot receiver and does a solid job.
Negative: Average closing and recovery speed. At times does more hitting rather than wrap up tackling. Has lapses in occasion.
Analysis: Etienne was a pleasant surprise at the safety position and though he lacks deep speed he would be an asset as a dime back in zone coverage.
