Detrick Bonner

School: Virginia Tech
Position: S
Bio: Three-year starter who finished his senior season with a career-best 72 tackles. Posted 5 interceptions in college and a season-best 10 passes broken up as a sophomore.
Positive: Forceful safety with average size/speed numbers. Quick up the field, aggressive defending the run and fights bigger tight ends to defend the throw. Stays with cover assignments, flashes ability over the slot receiver and fluid transitioning down the line with opponents. Plays disciplined football, keeps the action front of him and displays range in centerfield.
Negative: Struggles in zone coverage. Indecisive. Does not correctly time pass defenses in man situations. Inefficient and does not consistently take proper angles to the play.
Analysis: During his sophomore campaign, Bonner looked like the next big-time defensive back prospect on the Virginia Tech program but his play has since leveled off. He's not big or fast but shows enough skills stuffing the run and defending passes to get consideration as an eighth defensive back.
