Derrick Malone

School: Oregon
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter who finished with 85 tackles as a senior after leading the Ducks with 105 the prior year.
Positive: Undersized pursuit linebacker who may get consideration as a safety at the next level. Effective in space, gets depth on pass drops and covers a lot of area. Has a quick burst to the ball out of his plant, displays good closing speed and fast pursuing the action laterally. Fierce defending the run and gives effort. Flowing defender who quickly moves sideline-to-sideline.
Negative: Undersized and scheme specific. Marginally productive against passes in college.
Analysis: Malone was a consistent performer for the Oregon defense but lacks the size to stay at the linebacker position. His production defending the run and willingness to throw his body around the field will give him a chance as a backup strong safety/special and strong safety and on special teams.
