Corey Cooper

School: Nebraska
Position: S
Bio: Two-year starter who posted a career-best 91 tackles during his junior season.
Positive: Instinctive run-defending safety who works hard to make plays. Keeps the action in front of him, quick up the field and wraps up when tackling. Displays good route recognition in zone coverage, plays with an aggressive streak as well as a nasty attitude. Solid special teamer on coverage units and also returns punts.
Negative: Average burst to the ball out of his plant. Lacks great range in centerfield and cannot get to the flanks fast enough to cover passes.
Analysis: Cooper is an underrated safety with the instincts and playing style to line up as a traditional strong safety or in a zone system. Special teams, an area where he excelled on the college level, could help him grab a roster slot this fall.
