Taylor Heinicke

School: Old Dominion
Position: QB
Bio: Four-year starter and former Walter Payton Award winner in 2012. Senior totals included 3476 yards passing and 30 TDs. Career-best 5076 yards passing came as a sophomore when Old Dominion played in Division IAA.
Positive: Smart, instinctive quarterback with poor measurables. Poised, does a terrific job controlling and commanding the offense and displays a great sense for what's happening. Knows where his receivers are, accurate and gives receivers a chance to make receptions. Senses pressure, steps up to avoid the rush and shows the ability to escape outside the pocket to make the throw on the move. Natural looking off safeties, quickly locates the open receiver and displays a sense of timing on throws. Accurate and effectively places passes.
Negative: Lacks pocket size, stature and overall arm strength. Cannot get the ball through the tight spots, cannot zip the outs or drive the deep passes downfield.
Analysis: Heinicke was ultra productive on the college level and one of the better quarterbacks to play on Saturdays. He possesses a tremendous head for the position but lacks the physical skills to be anything other than a practice squad quarterback.
