Shane Ray

School: Missouri
Position: OLB
Bio: Moved into the starting line up last season and was awarded both All-America and all-conference honors. Also named SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Totals included 65 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. Sophomore totals included 39 tackles and nine tackles for loss.
Positive: Explosive pass rusher who's been a shooting up draft boards. Fires off the snap with a quick first step, plays with terrific pad level and gets leverage on opponents. Quick and fluid moving in every direction, forceful up the field and explosive in all his actions. Keeps his feet and hands active and easily changes direction or alters his angle of attack without losing momentum. Displays speed in backside pursuit and incredibly nimble. Offers a variety of moves with his hands, shows great punch and knocks bigger blockers off the line. Easily bends off the edge, stays within his pass rush angle and has a closing burst.
Negative: Lacks natural bulk and gets caught up in the trash. Lacks top height for pass rusher. Was disappointing in many of his shuttle times during his pro-day workout.
Analysis: Ray was a disruptive force for Missouri and his game took off last season after he moved into the starting line up. He's an explosive pass rusher who can come out of a three-point stance or stand up at linebacker and should develop into a three-down player with experience and physical maturity.
