Tavaris Barnes

School: Clemson
Position: DE
Bio: Started three games last season posting 19 tackles, 5 tackles for loss as well as 3 sacks.
Positive: Relatively athletic but undersized college defensive end who's flashed ability the past three years. Fluid moving about the field, quick if asked to twist or stunt and displays a good change of direction. Fast off the edge, immediately alters his angle of attack and shows ability in pursuit. Slides down the line of scrimmage, fights with his hands and plays with quickness. Rarely knocked off his feet.
Negative: Easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Marginally productive at Clemson and was never able to nail down the starting job on a full-time basis.
Analysis: Barnes was a solid contributor for the Penn State defense but does not stand out in any single aspect of the game. He's too small to play defensive end at the next level and may not have the pure athleticism to be a 3-4 outside linebacker. He projects as a designated pass rusher but must play well on special teams to make a final roster.
