Preston Smith

School: Mississippi State
Position: DE
Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-conference honors as a senior after finishing the year with 48 tackles as well as a team-leading 15 tackles for loss and 9 sacks. Also intercepted three passes and broke up three more.
Positive: Fairly athletic defensive end with terrific pass-rushing skills. Moves well in every direction of the field, bends his knees and plays with leverage. Shows a terrific closing burst, effectively fights with his hands and rarely off his feet. Easily changes direction and displays a burst pursuing plays laterally. Slides down the line of scrimmage or moves to the inside to get to the action.
Negative: Slow disengaging from blocks and handled at the point by a single blocker. May be a liability in run defense.
Analysis: Smith comes off a terrific senior campaign and is one of the more natural pass rushers in this year's draft. He moves towards the event as a defensive front seven player who can line up at end or even stand up as an outside linebacker.
