Charles Gaines

School: Louisville
Position: CB
Bio: Former receiver who moved to cornerback as a sophomore then proceeded to start the following two seasons. All-conference selection last year after totaling 36 tackles, 2 interceptions and 10 PBUs.
Positive: Short but feisty cornerback with solid ball skills. Plays aggressive football, quick up the field defending the run and mixes it up with receivers throughout the route. Fast in both a straight line as well as laterally, displays good route recognition in zone coverage and covers a lot of ground. Displays an excellent burst to the ball, effectively times his pass defenses and shows good hands for interceptions.
Negative: Lacks the second gear and struggles with his deep responsibilities. Will be overmatched by bigger receivers.
Analysis: After moving from receiver to cornerback, Gaines showed steady progress in the secondary and has the size, instincts and ball skills necessary to line up in nickel or dime packages at the next level, primarily in zone coverage.
