Jordan Matthews

School: Vanderbilt
Position: WR
Positive: Four-year starter who had led Vanderbilt in receptions every season since his sophomore campaign. Senior totals included 112 receptions, 1477 yards, and 7 TDs after 94 receptions, 1323 yards, and 8 TDs the prior year. Awarded both all-America and all-conference honors the past two years. Productive possession receiver with good size. Displays soft and strong hands, uses his frame to shield away defenders, and extends to make catches away from his body. Comes back to the ball to make himself an available target, competes to come away with the catch, and usually wins out in battles. Extends and exposes himself to big hits and is a sturdy receiver. Effectively uses his hands to separate from opponents, uses the sidelines well, and displays good eye-hand coordination. Plays with balance and body control.
Negative: Lacks the quick release off the line of scrimmage. Average speed and quickness and does not win out in foot races. Has lapses in concentration. Occasionally body catches and drops some very catchable throws. Struggled in the postseason.
Analysis: Matthews was a consistent receiver and the go-to guy in the Vanderbilt offense. He possesses marginal quickness and speed for the next level but possesses the skills to line up as a third/possession receiver in the NFL.
