Mycal Swaim

School: Eastern Michigan
Position: S
Positive: Junior-college transfer who broke into the starting lineup as a senior, finishing second on the team with 81 tackles. Large and relatively athletic safety who flashes ability. Forceful run defender, quickly closes to the action, and attacks ball handlers. Hard hitting and wraps up when tackling. Shows good range and the ability to get outside the numbers in pursuit of the action. Looks imposing. Fluid moving laterally and quick footed in reverse.
Negative: Late reacting in coverage and displays marginal ball skills. Inefficient and does not always take proper angles to the action.
Analysis: Swaim is a physically imposing defensive back who showed terrific development last season but has a long way before he'll be NFL ready. He offers potential as a zone safety and should get consideration on a practice squad this summer.
