Craig Loston

School: LSU
Position: S
Positive: Three-year starter who totaled 57 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 1 sack last season as well as intercepting three passes. Junior totals included 55 tackles and 3 interceptions. Explosive safety best playing in the box. Willing run defender, big-time hitter, and intimidates opponents. Strong, wraps up runners, and brings them down at the initial point of contact. Displays a burst of straight-line speed, shows good route recognition in zone coverage, and plays faster than his 40-time. Solid special-teams player, standing out on coverage units.
Negative: Does not display good feel in coverage. Lacks great lateral speed. Struggles over the slot receiver, slow transitioning with opponents off the line, and loses a half step in his backpedal. At times does more hitting rather than wrap up tackling.
Analysis: Loston is a big, physical safety who would be productive in a system which limits his area responsibilities and has him facing the action. His special teams ability gives him a leg up at the next level.
