James Wilder Jr.

School: Florida State
Position: RB
Positive: Rotational running back who finished with 563 yards rushing and 8 TDs last season after 635 rushing yards the prior year. Strong, straight-ahead runner with an average game. Runs with good lean, keeps his feet moving, and does not go down without a fight. Stays on his feet off the initial hit, quickly gets back to running form, and picks up positive yardage. Resilient, works runs, and shows the ability to get through the cutback lanes. Effectively follows blocks and possesses a small burst. Picks up blitzes in pass protection.
Negative: Not a creative or elusive runner. Does not make defenders miss and struggles bouncing around piles. Average receiver out of the backfield. Does not show great running vision or instincts.
Analysis: Wilder was a solid rotational player for Florida State but never grabbed hold of the starting job as many thought possible. He's an average athlete with average next-level skills but does the little things well, which could help him grab a roster spot as a team's fifth back.
