Tajh Boyd

School: Clemson
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter who completed 68.5% of his throws last season for 3851 yards and 34 TDs. Threw for more than 3800 yards each of the past three seasons. Highly productive college quarterback who does not project well to the next level. Athletic, displays a big arm, and throws the ball with velocity. Effectively looks off the safety, challenges with the vertical game, and puts air under deep throws. Senses the rush, steps up in the pocket to avoid defenders, and makes plays with his legs. Sells ball fakes, effectively sets up screen passes, and puts touch on throws when necessary. Terrific leader and commands the offense.
Negative: Does not consistently read the defense or find safeties and cornerbacks. Indecisive in the pocket. Does not always throw with proper footwork. Doesn't transfer his weight and steps out of throws. Misjudges passes, which results in overthrown balls and missed opportunities for the offense. Late on throws and has receivers working hard to make catches. Passes tend to hang in the air, which gives defensive backs time to make their move. Changes his release point and throws with a side arm motion. Lacks the size necessary to withstand the rush.
Analysis: Boyd was a tremendous college quarterback who approaches the game in a professional matter. In the end, he's a developmental prospect who must improve his throwing mechanics and accuracy before he'll ever get a chance to line up behind center in the NFL.
