Logan Thomas

School: Virginia Tech
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter who finished with 2907 yards passing, 16 TDs and 13 INTs as a senior. Career totals of 59.8%, 3013 yards, 19 TDs and 10 INTs came during his sophomore season. Big, athletic passer whose play has declined the past two seasons. Has a major-league arm, makes all the throws, and delivers the ball with speed. Sells ball fakes, easily gets outside the pocket, and gets passes through the tight spots. Loses nothing throwing on the run and can pick up yardage with his legs. Stands in against the rush and to spreads the ball around to all his receivers. Puts touch on throws when necessary. Stays with the action and works hard to be productive.
Negative: Does not sense pressure, holds the ball too long, and forces passes into covered receivers. Improperly reads the defense and late delivering throws, which gives opportunities to opponents. Not on the same page as receivers. Stares down the primary target and slow to move his eyes.
Analysis: As a sophomore in 2011, Thomas showed franchise quarterback type of skill. His play the past two seasons, specifically his decision-making and mental mistakes, has many now believing otherwise. The bottom line is Thomas has all the physical skills to start at the next level but needs work on the mental aspects of his game to have any chance of getting off the bench in the NFL.
