Jimmy Garoppolo

School: Eastern Illinois
Position: QB
Positive: Record-setting four-year starter who finished his senior season with 5050 yards, 53 touchdown passes, and just 9 interceptions. High-percentage passer with definite possibilities in a timing or West Coast offense. Displays terrific awareness in the pocket, shows a great sense of timing on throws, and excellent field vision. Senses the rush, steps up to avoid it, and goes through receiver progressions. Patient, buys as much time as necessary, and improvises if plays break down. Goes to second or even third targets if the primary receiver is covered. Very accurate in the short and intermediate field, placing passes were only his receiver can the reception. Stays with the action, always in control of the situation, and shows tremendous poise. Rarely has receivers waiting on throws and easily hits targets in stride. Flashes the ability to get the ball downfield.
Negative: Has a short-throwing motion and looks like he's pushing the ball. Lacks great pocket size. For the most part struggles with his deep accuracy and does not let receivers run to the long throw.
Analysis: Garoppolo was ultra-productive in the pass happy offense at Eastern Illinois and comes with a polished game. He's not a vertical passer but has the skill set necessary to develop into a starter for a timing or West Coast offense in the NFL.
