Derek Carr

School: Fresno State
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors since his sophomore season. Two-time all-America recipient who was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year after the 2012 and 2013 campaigns. Senior passing totals included a completion rate of 60.7%, 5082 yards, and 50 TDs. Junior numbers included 4104 yards and 37 TDs. Threw 24 interceptions over 1630 pass attempts in college. Brother David was the first pick of the 2002 NFL Draft. Strong-armed passer with an accurate arm. Sells ball fakes, goes through progressions, and does not force the ball into covered targets. Plays with a confident nature, knows where his receivers are, and shows a sense of timing on throws. Does not have receivers waiting on the ball. Possesses a quick release, gets the ball through the tight spots, and puts the ball in front of receivers, allowing them to run to the pass. Patient, takes the safe underneath outlet if nothing else is available, and effectively sets up screen passes. Spreads the ball around using all his targets and naturally looks off the safety. Throws solid corner and fade patterns.
Negative: Not a nifty or nimble quarterback. Occasionally stares down the primary target and does not find the safety. Shuffles his feet and gets nervous under pressure. Needs to improve his downfield accuracy, as long passes tend to float.
Analysis: Carr was incredibly productive on the college level and is a quarterback who always in command of the situation. He lacks ideal height and has small hands, but is a quarterback with a passion for the game and starting potential for the next level.
