Brett Smith

School: Wyoming
Position: QB
Positive: Three-year starter who completed 62.7% of his throws last season for 3375 yards with 29 TDs and 11 INTs. Strong-armed passer who's been a consistent producer on the college level. Patient, buys time for receivers, and goes through progressions. Elusive, easily avoids defenders, and gets outside the pocket, then keeps his eyes down the field. Makes good decisions, does not force the ball into targets, and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary. Possesses a quick release and throws with outstanding velocity in the short and intermediate field. Goes to check down receivers under the rush and effectively commands the offense.
Negative: Loses a lot of steam on passes throwing on the move. Must put a lot of effort to get the ball downfield, and passes still float. Does not always find defenders, and tosses the ball into problem spots when he doesn't read the coverage.
Analysis: Smith was a relatively accurate quarterback who displayed consistent progress at Wyoming and would do well in a West Coast offense at the next level.
