Marquis Spruill

School: Syracuse
Position: OLB
Positive: Four-year starter awarded varying degrees of all-conference honors since his freshman season. Totaled a career-best 66 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 5 sacks as a senior. Underrated linebacker with a complete game. Plays with a nasty attitude, quickly locates the ball, and makes plays sideline to sideline. Scrapes well laterally, easily gets outside the numbers in pursuit of the action, and sells out to make plays. Fast and forceful off the edge and fires through the open gaps in run defense. Despite his size, shows the ability to defeat blocks and get to the action.
Negative: Playing size does not translate well to the next level. Displays average skill in coverage.
Analysis: Spruill looked like an up-and-coming prospect after his sophomore season but never elevated his play as we thought possible. He's a run-and-chase linebacker who would do well backing up in a one-gap system.
