Marcus Whitfield

School: Maryland
Position: OLB
Positive: Former backup who moved into the starting role as a senior, posting 52 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. Late developing linebacker prospect who displayed flashes last season. Relatively instinctive. Quick moving in every direction and shows a feel in coverage. Breaks down well, uses his hands to protect himself, and is rarely knocked off his feet. Quickly collapses outside-in to defend the run. Covers a lot of area firing through the gaps in run defense, showing ability in pursuit, and quickly getting outside the numbers to make plays.
Negative: Does not always take proper angles and overpursues the play. Plays faster than his 40 time but still lacks elite speed. Minimally productive until his senior season.
Analysis: Whitfield's game took off last season and he has enough skill to get consideration as a backup strongside linebacker in a conventional line-up or on the inside of a 3-4 defense.
