Jacques Smith

School: Tennessee
Position: OLB
Positive: Used in the starting rotation at defensive end the past three seasons. Senior totals included 28 tackles and 2 tackles for loss when he struggled early on with a broken arm. Junior totals included 33 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Undersized college defensive end with possibilities as a 3-4 rush linebacker in the NFL. Athletic, easily moves about the field, and shows good range with the ability to get outside the numbers. Easily changes direction. Breaks down well and tough to knock off his feet. Keeps his pads low to the ground out of a three-point stance, and plays with balance and body control.
Negative: Easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Marginally productive throughout his career. Generally used up the field for most of his Tennessee career. Times poorly in the forty.
Analysis: Smith flashed pass-rushing skill in college and comes with above average athleticism. His best opportunity at the next level will be lining up as a designated pass rusher.
