Jonathan Brown

School: Illinois
Position: ILB
Positive: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his sophomore season. Led Illinois in tackles as a sophomore with 108 then again as a senior with 119 tackles. Instinctive and productive linebacker with poor size and speed. Displays good awareness, efficient, and covers a lot of area. Gets depth on pass drops, shows a burst filling gaps up, and remains disciplined with assignments. Does not bite on play action passes, scrapes well laterally and works hard to make plays. Uses his hands to protect himself, fluid moving in every direction, and shows ability in pursuit.
Negative: Undersized, struggles getting off blocks, and has tackles broken. Possesses more of a burst rather than outright long speed. Overmatched in coverage and not a stout run defender.
Analysis: Brown was a terrific linebacker at Illinois and a productive defender constantly around the action. He\x92s built more like a strong safety than lineba cker and projects as a backup in a one-gap system.
