Carlos Fields Jr

School: Winston-Salem
Position: ILB
Positive: Decorated small-school linebacker who's been a tackling machine for Winston-Salem. Breaks down well, remains disciplined with assignments, and displays a good head for the ball. Shows a quick first step to the action, has a burst to the play, and sells out to make the tackle. Effectively quarterbacks the defense, keeps the action in front of him, and does not bite on ball fakes. Flows well to the action, works hard to get off blocks, and stacks well against the run.
Negative: Not smooth or quick backpedaling. Shows stiffness in his game. Gets caught up in the trash moving laterally.
Analysis: Fields was a terrific run stuffing linebacker at Winston-Salem but lacks the great size for the NFL. He plays big and could find the role as a backup inside linebacker or special teams player.
