Kenarious Gates

School: Georgia
Position: G
Positive: Three-year starter who lined up at left tackle as a senior. Sets with a wide base, quickly gets into blocks and jolts defenders with good hand punch. Keeps opponents in front, stays square and seals them from the action. Correctly places his hands into defenders, steers them from the action and adjusts to speed opponents. Quick out to the second level and gets a pad on linebackers, disrupting their angle of attack.
Negative: Does not sink his butt at the line of scrimmage. Must improve his overall blocking balance. Haphazard and can be all over the place, which hinders his ability to finish blocks. Lacks smooth footwork sliding off the edge.
Analysis: Gates was a consistent lineman for Georgia, flashing skill and athleticism since his sophomore season. He needs to improve on the finer points of his game but offers size, upside, and could be an invaluable backup at several offensive line positions.
