Kelcy Quarles

School: South Carolina
Position: DT
Positive: Two-year starter named to several all-America teams last season after totals of 39 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks. Sophomore totals included 38 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. Athletic interior lineman with good size. Explosive, fires off the snap, and flashes dominance. Displays a good change of direction, easily gets down the line of scrimmage, and makes plays outside the box. Keeps his feet moving, redirects to the action, and works his hands to protect himself. Flashes power and the ability to split blocks.
Negative: Does not consistently play with proper pad level and makes himself an easy target. Lacks great bulk and struggles getting off blocks. Looked sluggish at times last season.
Analysis: Quarels flashed ability the past two seasons and comes with upside but must consistently play at a high level and, most importantly, implement consistent fundamentals. He's a potential 3-technique tackle at the next level with starting ability if he continues to develop.
