Zamel Johnson

School: Temple
Position: CB
Positive: Hofstra transfer who was started the past three seasons at Temple. Underrated cornerback with a variety of skill. Instinctive, effectively reads the action, and aggressively pursue plays. Stays with assignments, plays within himself, and works well with safeties. Fluid backpedaling, stays with receivers out of breaks, and positions himself to make plays on the ball. Shows an explosive burst of closing speed. Quick up the field and works hard to defend the run.
Negative: Does not consistently take proper angles to the action. Marginally productive at Temple and has shown more flashes than consistency. Lacks long speed.
Analysis: Johnson is a solid defensive back who combines natural ball skills and a decent head for the game. He possesses marginal speed numbers for the next level but has enough ability to get consideration as an eighth defensive back/special teams player.
