Abdul Smith

School: Temple
Position: CB
Positive: Rutgers transfer coming off a career season, which included 81 tackles in 12 starts. Nice-sized cornerback who plays heads-up football. Tough, hard hitting and plays through pain. Quick up the field, aggressively goes after ball carriers, and works to defend the run or screen passes. Drives through tackles. Plays with excellent awareness, read receivers eyes and gets his head back around to locate the pass in the air.
Negative: Minimally productive until last season when he lined up at safety. Did not display good range in centerfield. Late getting to the flanks. Does not make many plays when the ball is in the air.
Analysis: Smith is a versatile defensive back with the underlying skills to be used in a variety of systems at the next level. He must elevate his game but possesses size and a special teams mentality.
