Mike Newbern

School: Bethel-Tn
Position: WR
Bio: Two-year starter who totaled 30 receptions/474 yards/6 TDs as a senior after 27/363/1 the prior season.
Positive: Big receiver who shows the ability to break long plays. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage and uses his hands to get off jams. Quickly gets to top speed and accelerates down the field. Displays good hand/eye coordination as well as timing on receptions. Plays with balance and body control. Easily makes receptions in stride or adjusts to errant throws. Gives effort blocking.
Negative: Merely average production despite small-school competition. Displays minimal quickness and lacks a second gear.
Analysis: Newbern is a late bloomer of sorts but possesses the physical skills to stick as a fifth receiver in the NFL. Ultimately, he's a practice-squad prospect with some upside.
