Michael Smith

School: Connecticut
Position: WR
Bio: Former starter who totaled 31 receptions/407 yards/1 TD as a senior. Missed the 2011 season with injury. Posted career numbers of 46/615/2 as a true junior in 2010.
Positive: Reliable pass catcher with minimal upside. Works hard to get free, follows the quarterback across the field, and comes back to the ball out of breaks. Effectively uses his frame to shield away defenders, consistently makes the reception in stride, then quickly transitions to pick up yardage running after the catch. Effortlessly catches the ball running laterally and adjusts in midair to errant throws. Displays good hand/eye coordination as well as focus and concentration.
Negative: Marginally productive on the college level. Lacks both the ideal size for a possession receiver and ideal speed for a downfield threat.
Analysis: Smith flashed throughout his Connecticut career yet was a receiver who never truly elevated his game. His best chance lies with a team that keeps six receivers.
