Roger Gaines

School: Tennessee State
Position: T
Bio: Two-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his junior season. Named as an all-American in 2011.
Positive: Tall, athletic tackle with a tremendous amount of upside potential. Sets with a wide base, bends his knees, and blocks with leverage. Keeps his feet moving, displays good lateral blocking range, and slides out in pass protection well. Adjusts to defenders, picks up the blitz, and jolts opponents at the point of attack. Gets after blocks and turns defenders from the line. Easily moves about the field and quickly gets to the second level.
Negative: Does not display a great feel for the use of body positioning or blocking angles. A bit mechanical in his overall game and haphazard in his movements. Must improve his overall playing strength.
Analysis: Gaines is a terrific small-school prospect with a fine combination of athleticism, movement skills, and growth potential. He must improve the details of his position yet is worth the time investment from an NFL team.
