Walt Canty

School: Duke
Position: S
Bio: Full-time starter the past two seasons after seeing extensive action with the first-team as a sophomore. All-Conference selection as a senior posting 109 tackles/1 interception/4 pass breakups. Junior totals included 87 tackles.
Positive: Tough, run defending safety with limited size and speed for the next level. Keeps the action front of him, remains disciplined with assignments, and instinctive. Effectively diagnoses the action and positions himself to make plays on the ball. Wraps up ballcarriers and shows skill in coverage.
Negative: Not a stout or strong safety. Displays little in the way of quickness or burst.
Analysis: Canty was a productive college safety, yet lacks the speed and range to play centerfield and doesn't possess the size for a traditional strong safety. He could back up in a zone system if he proves his worth on special teams.
