Ray Ray Armstrong

School: Miami-Fl
Position: S
Bio: Awarded all-Conference honors as a sophomore in 2010 when he posted 79 tackles and intercepted three passes. Played in seven games the following year and recorded 34 tackles. Dismissed from the Hurricane program in July 2012 over concerns of potential NCAA violations. Transferred to Faulkner College of the NAIA but eventually deemed ineligible and sat out 2012.
Positive: One-time, highly-rated safety who watched his draft stock tumble the past 24 months. Strong run defender who fires up the field, wraps up ballcarriers, and easily brings opponents down on initial contact. Displays good movement skills, plays with an aggressive style, and has an explosive burst of speed to the action. Quickly breaks to the pass out of his plant and a forceful defender. Solid special-teams player who stood out on coverage units.
Negative: Does not display a feel for coverage, bites on ball fakes, and blows assignments. Does not take proper angles to the action and hesitates reacting to plays.
Analysis: Armstrong looked the part and occasionally played to it at Miami, yet showed a lot of inconsistency and confusion in his game. He offers the style of a traditional strong safety and may even get consideration as a one-gap linebacker, yet Armstrong is a long way from being NFL ready. He will have to quickly impress coaches this summer to secure a spot on a practice squad.
