Johnathan Franklin

School: UCLA
Position: RB
Bio: Four-year starter named to numerous All-America teams last season as well as being awarded all-Conference honors. Senior totals included 282 carries/1734 yards/13 TDs and 33 receptions/323 yards/2 TDs. Junior ground totals included 166/976/5 after 2014/1127/8 as a sophomore. Carried the ball 788 times in college and averaged 5.6 yards per attempt.
Positive: Super-productive back swiftly moving up draft boards. Double-cut ballcarrier who sees the field, strings several moves together over the course of a single run, and makes numerous defenders miss. Patiently waits for blocks to develop, picks his spots on the inside, and has a burst through the running lanes. Quick-footed, sets defenders up and works runs hard. Resilient, keeps the play in bounds, and drives his shoulders through defenders, falling forward when tackled. Easily bounces around piles and runs with good lean. A terrific receiver out of the backfield. Smart football player with outstanding awareness.
Negative: Not a strong back who picks up yardage off initial contact or moves the pile. Too often easily brought down at the point of attack by a single defender. Lacks great breakaway speed and is not a home-run hitter.
Analysis: Franklin possesses a well-rounded game and is a three-down back effective as a ballcarrier or pass catcher as well as a blocker when necessary. He E(TM)s not a heavy-duty feature runner on the inside, but could flourish in a west coast system that gives him a multiple responsibilities.
