Geno Smith

School: West Virginia
Position: QB
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors since his sophomore season. Passing totals last year included 71.2%/4205 yards/42 TDs/6 interceptions. Junior totals included 65.8%/4385/31/7.
Positive: Strong-armed passer with starting potential at the next level. Patient in the pocket and remains poised under the rush. Resilient, takes a beating but works hard to make plays. Displays good awareness, sells ball fakes, and knows where his receivers are on the field. Keeps his eyes downfield, finds the open wideout, and displays exceptional timing on throws. Possesses a quick release, immediately gets the ball out of his hands, and shows the ability to power the pass through tight windows. Can make all the throws, zipping the outs and driving deep passes. Puts air under the throw and consistently gives his receivers a chance to make receptions.
Negative: Footwork is inconsistent. Struggles with his defensive reads, does not always find the safety or cornerback and puts the pass up for grabs. Started quickly as a senior but struggled as the season progressed.
Analysis: Smith possesses the athleticism as well as the arm strength to start in the NFL and has shown himself to be a terrific leader on the field. He must improve his defensive reads and mechanics but offers significant upside.
