Collin Klein

School: Kansas State
Position: QB
Bio: Two year starter named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 after passing numbers of 64.8%/2641 yards/16 TDs/9 INTs. Also added ground numbers of 207 carries/920 yards/23 TDs. Junior ground totals included 317/1141/27. Combined for 50 touchdowns on the ground and 29 through the air the past two seasons.
Positive: Super productive college player who may never be an NFL ready quarterback. Makes good choices in the pocket, displays terrific field awareness, and improvises when plays breakdown. Senses pressure and steps up to avoid the rush or pick up yardage with his legs. Buys time for receivers, puts air under the deep throw, and gives pass catchers a chance to make receptions. Consistently keeps his eyes downfield looking for open wideouts. Outstanding job commanding the offense and always in control of the situation.
Negative: Has a short-throwing motion, pushes passes, and cannot drive the ball downfield. Struggles with his accuracy. As much a threat running with the ball as he is throwing it.
Analysis: Klein was an outstanding college signal caller and a true leader on the field who consistently found ways to put points on the board. He possesses the size and athleticism to play the next level, yet needs a overhaul of his mechanics. Klein is worth placing on the practice squad and he may get an opportunity early in his NFL career in certain wildcat and red-zone packages.
