Nathan Palmer

School: Illinois State
Position: OLB
Bio: Two-time all-Conference selection who posted 71 tackles/15 tackles for loss/7.5 sacks as a senior after 46/10.5/9.5 the prior year. Began his college career at Illinois.
Positive: Undersized college defensive end who projects to linebacker at the next level. Breaks down well, plays with good knee bend, and displays solid movement skills. Forceful off the edge, keeps his feet moving on contact, and quickly changes direction. Fast getting out to the flanks in pursuit of the action, effectively uses his hands to protect himself, and displays a burst of closing speed. Fluid athlete who is rarely caught off his feet.
Negative: Rarely used off the line of scrimmage. Handled by blocks out of his three-point stance. Marginally instinctive.
Analysis: Palmer was a productive small-school pass rusher but lacks the size to stay at defensive end in the NFL. He must prove he can do more than rush the passer in camp this summer to have any chance of making a roster.
