Michael Clay

School: Oregon
Position: OLB
Bio: Three-year starter awarded all-Conference honors as a senior after totals of 101 tackles/10 tackles for loss/3 sacks. Junior numbers included a career-best 102 tackles.
Positive: Undersized but explosive three-down defender who gets the most from his ability. Possesses a terrific burst of closing speed and quickly makes his way to the action. Gives effort on the blitz. Fast pursuing the action laterally and effective in space. Runs with tight ends in coverage, gets depth on drops, and covers a lot of ground. Terrific in pursuit, uickly changes direction, and displays solid lateral movement skills.
Negative: Easily caught up in the trash and too often blocked from the action by a single opponent. Will be overmatched by larger tight ends. Average size/speed numbers for the next level.
Analysis: Clay is a hard-working and well-rounded defender who gets the most from his ability. He has size limitations but could be very effective as a backup in a one-gap defense and a contributor on special teams.
